Is there a free trial?

Yes, when you sign up for a free Mirinae account, you’ll receive 14 day trial of unrestricted, Pro access to all of our learning features at no cost or obligation.

 

You can use the trial period to fully explore our offerings and decide if they meet your needs. At the end of the trial, your account will automatically revert to a regular Free account, still with unlimited sentence explorations, but with limited details and feature access.   Or, you can subscribe at any time to keep using all the Pro features and lessons by clicking on one of the “Subscribe to Pro now” buttons.

Do I need to cancel the trial

No, it will automatically cancel itself after 14 days and revert your account to a regular Free account.    You will not be subscribed or charged anything, the trial is completely free, and requires no credit card or commitment to purchase a subscription.

 

When you account reverts to a Free account, you will continue to be able to use the Mirinae analyzer to get summary sentence explanations, but you will not be able to access Mirinae Lessons or some of our advanced tools, such as the OCR image reader or Listening Practice Tool.

 

You can subscribed to a Pro account at anytime, during or after the trial, just by clicking on any of the Subscribe to Pro buttons that will appear if you attempt to access a Pro level service.

 

Why did you adopt this subscription model?

Mirinae Beta has been free for quite some time, and we are very pleased that so many learners have found it a unique and valuable learning aid. It has taken a lot of effort and resources to make this service available, and we now need a viable way for us to be able to continue to do so and to add more useful learning tools.

 

The most direct and cleanest way for us to do this is to establish a subscription model. We have tried to price it modestly, so it is in reach of most of our users, and we continue to provide free, unlimited access to the analyzer and its top-level explanations.

 

Perhaps the most valuable asset and the one that has taken the most time and effort to build is the grammar and idiom pattern library that underlies the analyzer and its reference results. It is, as far as we know, quite unique, and although we were reluctant to put some of the deeper reference material into the Pro plan, we felt we had to account in the subscription model for its uniqueness and the effort it has taken to build it.

 

We hope you will understand this move and will consider helping us keep the service going and continue the development of our services. We have plans to add many more learning resources and they will, of course, all be accessible under the paid plans.

What comes with Mirinae Pro?

At Mirinae, we offer different levels of access to our features based on your membership status.

 

  • Guest user
    This is a free service that requires no payment or registration.  You get unlimited access to our Sentence Analyzer and its top-level explanations, but we will not store your exploration history and you will not be able to participate in the various discussion boards within the Mirinae services.

 

  • Free user
    Users who register and create an account with us but who are not on a paid subscription have a Free account.   Immediately upon registration, the user gets a free upgrade to Pro for a trial period of 2 weeks, during which you’ll have full access to all of our premium features.   After the trial expires, the account returns to be a Free account, with the same access as Guest users, but we keep a history of all your explorations that you can browse and review at any time, and you can participate in any of the various discussion boards within the Mirinae services.

 

  • Mirinae Pro user
    Users who establish a paid subscription with Mirinae.   Pro users get all the services that free users get, plus:
    • Unlimited access to the Sentence Analyzer including library content
    • Full access to the lessons including newly opened lessons in addition to the currently published lessons

Do I need a separate Mirinae login account for every device?

No!!  A single Mirinae account is all you need!

 

Since we allow signups via multiple login services, people sometimes create multiple accounts and login in different ways at different times. We recommend you create one account and use it on all devices and desktops, so that your history and lesson tracking and any Pro subscription you have is active and available across all your devices and desktops.

My Pro account has disappeared!

This should only happen if you cancel your account, and even the, only at the end of the subscription period in which you canceled.

 

Sometimes, your Pro status might seem to disappear, but please ensure you are logged into the Mirinae Account you were logged into when you subscribed. Since we allow signups via multiple login services, people sometimes create multiple accounts and login with one of the alternate accounts. Any Pro subscription is tied *only* to the single Mirinae account you subscribed under, and you may login under that Mirinae account on any supported device or desktop.

For purchases made via the app store (in-app purchases on mobile devices), refunds are subject to the policies of the app store where the purchase was made. What should I do if the analysis results are not accurate?

We apologize for the trouble you are having with our service. Since our service is based on machine learning, it has been evolving. There are chances that you get the wrong results.

 

  1. First, try to check word spacing if it’s correct
  2. Check the spelling of Hangul
  3. Still having trouble? Do as follows
    – Please explain exactly how it is not working and send us a screen capture of any errors or messages.
    – Also, send us your device information, including brand and model number and OS version.

How was Mirinae created?

John Wainwright who is an Australian computer scientist and CTO of Mirinae became interested in Korean culture and started to learn Korean some years ago.

 

He was intrigued by how difficult the Korean language is for English speakers and yet how beautifully simple and elegant Hangul is.  He learned Hangul in a weekend, but he is still struggling with Korean!

 

A particularly difficult aspect for Korean learners when they encounter written Korean is to understand the structure of the text.

 

From his background in programming language design and machine learning, he realized it would be possible to build an automated analyzer that could break down encountered Korean into all these components and explain this complex structure in detail.

 

This would allow any encountered Korean to become “comprehensible input”, a crucial component in acquiring a language.
